In Hyderabad, doctors from Osmania and Gandhi hospitals decided not to attend outpatient services. This action is part of their protest against a tragic event in West Bengal where a medical student was raped and murdered.
The protest was called by the Telangana Junior Doctors Association. They urged doctors to stop outpatient and elective services starting August 14. This move is in solidarity with a nationwide protest by resident doctors after the incident at RG Kar Medical College. The doctors expressed deep sorrow and condemned the crime. They are upset about the police’s handling of the protestors in Kolkata. Major Resident Doctors’ Associations across the country met on August 12 and agreed on a set of demands.
The doctors are calling for fair compensation for the victim’s family. They also want the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to look into the crime for a clear and unbiased investigation. They are demanding the resignation or suspension of officials who misled the victim’s family and the public about the cause of death. The doctors insist on implementing the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) of 2020 to ensure safety at all medical colleges across the country.
