    8 Convicted for Smuggling 681.8 kg of Ganja in Hyderabad

    The Additional District and Sessions Court in Ranga Reddy has sentenced eight people to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for smuggling a large quantity of ganja. Each of them was also fined Rs 1 lakh under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.

    According to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Hyderabad Zone, officials intercepted a major drug consignment on February 24, 2021. The seizure took place at Pedda Amberpet toll plaza on Nehru Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Hayathnagar Mandal, Ranga Reddy district. The traffickers were caught transporting 681.8 kg of ganja in three vehicles.

    Investigations revealed that the accused were smuggling ganja from Sileru in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, to Pune and Osmanabad via Hyderabad. The eight individuals involved were identified as Suresh Shyamrao Pawar, Vishal Ramesh Pawar, Balaji Ramdas Ware, Manoj Vilas Dhotre, Dhyaneshwar Lalasaheb Deshmukh, Ramraje Chaturbhuj Gunjale, Akshay Anant Gandhi, and Sachin Dagadu Sanap.

    After a trial, the court found them guilty under Sections 8(c) read with 20(b)(ii)(C) of the NDPS Act. In 2024 alone, six cases handled by NCB Hyderabad went to trial, with five resulting in convictions. This case highlights the NCB’s strong efforts in fighting drug trafficking and enforcing the NDPS Act.

    The NCB remains determined to dismantle drug networks across the country. The agency has urged citizens to support their efforts in the fight against drug trafficking.
