Hyderabad came alive with faith and festivities as people gathered at Tank Bund to immerse Goddess Durga idols. This event marked the end of Navaratri and Dasara, turning the lakeside into a colorful scene filled with tradition and devotion.
Families brought beautifully adorned Durga idols early in the morning, traveling in trucks and jeeps. The idols, decorated with marigold garlands, sarees, and jewelry, showed the deep devotion of the communities. At Hussain Sagar, they bid farewell to the Goddess with heartfelt prayers.
Children played a central role in the celebration. Dressed in festive clothes, they had tilaks on their foreheads and smiles on their faces. They surrounded the idols, waved at onlookers, and posed proudly, enjoying a day of spiritual significance and family fun. The area around Tank Bund resonated with the sounds of drums and devotional songs.
Volunteers, organizers, and police worked together to manage the idol immersions smoothly. A memorable moment was when a crane lowered a Durga idol into the lake, with the majestic Ambedkar statue and government buildings in the background, highlighting the city’s blend of tradition and modernity.
While Tank Bund was busy with devotees, other parts of the city had quieter streets. Many families traveled to their hometowns for Dasara, leaving some neighborhoods unusually calm. This created a unique atmosphere of quiet residential areas contrasting with the lively lakefront gathering.
The immersion process included groups walking alongside tractors carrying idols, with children and elders holding trays of offerings. People wore traditional turbans, white kurtas, and festive outfits, adding to the visual spectacle. Despite the large crowd, a peaceful atmosphere prevailed. Families shared prasad, took photos, and taught children about the importance of saying goodbye to the Goddess.
Clear skies and a gentle breeze over the lake enhanced the emotional and celebratory mood. The immersion of Goddess Durga at Tank Bund showcased Hyderabad’s spirit, devotion, and cultural richness. As the idols submerged, devotees prayed for prosperity, protection, and the Goddess’s return next year.
