The Fernandez Foundation, known for its work in empowering women, has launched the Raahat Crisis Centre. This new center was created in partnership with the Invisible Scars Foundation and was officially opened on Thursday.
The event was attended by notable guests, including Christina Scott, the British Deputy High Commissioner to India, and Gareth Wynn Owen, the British Deputy High Commissioner to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Dr. Evita Fernandez, the chairperson and managing director of the Fernandez Foundation, was also present along with other special invitees.
Christina Scott spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of supporting women and girls. She highlighted that the UK’s international work in gender equality focuses on three main areas: educating girls, empowering women and girls, and ending gender-based violence. She expressed hope that the Raahat Crisis Centre would provide a safe space for survivors of domestic violence to get the support they need to recover and thrive.
The Raahat Crisis Centre is led by Dr. Maimoona Ahmed, a senior obstetrician at Fernandez Hospital. She is supported by Ekta Verma, the founder of the Invisible Scars Foundation. Together, they aim to provide essential resources and care to help survivors of domestic violence rebuild their lives.
