Nagarkurnool: A free eye check-up camp was held on Wednesday in Nagarkurnool district. It was organized by the District Medical and Health Department along with the District Blindness Control Society. The main goal of the camp was to help elderly people who might have cataracts.
Dr. KV Swarajyalakshmi, the District Medical and Health Officer, inaugurated the camp. She explained that cataracts are common in older people and can cause temporary vision problems. However, she said that cataracts can be treated with a simple surgery where a lens is placed inside the eye.
Dr. Swarajyalakshmi also told health workers like ANMs and ASHA members to look out for elderly people who may have cataracts. She asked them to send these people to upcoming eye camps in different parts of the district.
A total of 142 people were checked at the camp. Out of these, 38 were found to need surgery. These patients also had their blood pressure and sugar levels tested. After this, they were taken by ambulance to Lions Ram Reddy Hospital in Enugonda, Mahbubnagar, for further treatment.
Several officials attended the event, including eye officer Kotra Balaji, DPO Renayya, MPHEO R. Srinivasulu, Badam Rajesh, Health Educator Narasimha, DPMO Sukumareddy, Data Entry Operator Prakash, and Office Coordinator Ramesh.
