Hyderabad: On May 5, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and G Kishan Reddy will launch a series of major infrastructure projects in Telangana. These projects focus on boosting road connectivity and national highway development across the state.
The ministers will attend events at Kagaz Nagar X Road in Adilabad and Amberpet in Hyderabad. They will officially open several completed projects and lay foundation stones for new ones.
According to G Kishan Reddy, a total of 26 projects covering about 167 kilometers will be launched. These developments are worth approximately ₹5,416 crore. Out of these, 14 projects are ready for inauguration, while new highway works worth ₹826 crore will begin.
The central government is pushing for rapid infrastructure improvements in nearly 90% of India’s districts. The aim is to support economic growth, boost employment, and improve transportation networks. This includes upgrades in roads, railways, aviation, ports, and telecommunications.
Reddy highlighted significant progress in Telangana's road network. In 2014, the state had just 2,500 km of national highways. Today, that number has more than doubled to around 5,200 km. The central government has invested ₹1.25 lakh crore into these developments.
Several key highway corridors are under construction in Telangana. These include:
– The Hyderabad–Mumbai route via Nagpur
– The Warangal–Vijayawada link through Bhupalpally
– Expansion of National Highway 65, connecting Hyderabad and Vijayawada, from four to six lanes
– A four-lane elevated corridor to cut travel time between Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh
However, some projects are delayed due to land acquisition issues. Reddy said he had written to both former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and current Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urging faster action on land clearance.
To further improve transport, the government is developing 10,000 km of Greenfield corridors nationwide. These corridors are being built with a massive investment of ₹4.5 lakh crore.
In Telangana alone, around 136 kilometers of new highway construction is underway, costing about ₹4,500 crore. Two major corridors will significantly improve regional connectivity:
– The Surat–Solapur–Chennai corridor (1,056 km, costing ₹40,615 crore)
– The Hyderabad–Visakhapatnam corridor (164 km, costing ₹6,000 crore)
These projects show the central government’s strong commitment to modernizing Telangana’s infrastructure. Reddy urged the state to speed up land acquisition to avoid further delays.
After the announcements, the minister reviewed progress on the Amberpet flyover project in Hyderabad.
