Gadwal: A disturbing event in Induvasi village, Gattu Mandal, Jogulamba Gadwal District, has sparked public anger. At the Government Primary School, mid-day meals were served using a sickle, known locally as “goddhu karam,” instead of proper utensils. This incident, highlighted by local media, has faced heavy criticism from civil rights groups and concerned individuals.
Macharla Prakash, the Bhima Army in-charge for the former Mahabubnagar district, expressed strong disapproval. “This action is disgraceful and inhumane, especially for students who depend on government schools for education and meals,” he stated. He criticized government officials for their lack of compassion towards underprivileged children.
Prakash blamed local education authorities, including the District Education Officer (DEO) and Mandal Education Officer (MEO), for their negligence. “These practices show deep administrative apathy towards quality education and nutrition in government schools. Treating children this way is unacceptable.”
He urged the District Collector to take immediate and strict action against those responsible, pointing out that this incident reflects a larger issue within public education and welfare systems. “There must be accountability. Disciplinary actions are necessary to prevent such negligence.”
Prakash also called on the State Government to ensure that government schools maintain high standards of hygiene, nutrition, and dignity, particularly regarding mid-day meals.
The incident has raised wider concerns about the quality of services in rural government schools and the lack of effective monitoring to meet basic human standards.
Present during the protest and statement were Krupakar, Praveen, Mohan, Ramakrishna, Naveen, and Justin Prabhudas. They showed support for the affected students and committed to advocating for justice and systemic reforms.
The mid-day meal scheme is vital to improving nutrition among school children and boosting school attendance, especially in economically challenged areas. Failures in executing this scheme harm student health and diminish public trust in the education system.
