In Warangal, KR Nagaraju has made a remarkable journey from being a sub-inspector to becoming a police commissioner. His career was filled with challenges, some of which were life-threatening. Now, as an MLA, Nagaraju faces a new set of challenges. The people of Wardhannapet constituency have high hopes for him, expecting more significant contributions than those of his predecessor, Aroori Ramesh.
After retiring at the age of 61, Nagaraju entered politics. His entry surprised many, especially when the TPCC chief, Revanth Reddy, chose him to run against the experienced politician Aroori Ramesh in the Wardhannapet (SC Reserved) constituency. Despite being new to politics, Nagaraju succeeded, winning by a notable margin of 19,458 votes, proving his critics wrong.
Throughout his police career, Nagaraju worked in the challenging areas of Warangal and Khammam, known for Naxalite activities. He became a sub-inspector in 1989 and was known for his bravery and readiness to face difficult situations. During the peak of the Naxal insurgency, he was the preferred officer for his superiors. The danger he faced is evident from the 70 landmines planted by Naxals in Bhupalpally-Azamnagar, aimed at him during the 1990s.
Nagaraju comes from a family with a policing background, being the son of an armed constable, K Karpan. Initially, he aspired to be a doctor. He was also an athlete from a young age and was selected for the hockey senior nationals. Before retiring, he last held the position of Commissioner of Police in Nizamabad and then returned to his hometown, Laxmipuram, near Warangal.
