Hyderabad is taking steps to fight mosquito-borne diseases. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has started operations to reduce larvae and sources of mosquitoes in various areas.
GHMC teams have checked places like Mujahid Nagar, Mangalhat, Sarwar Nagar, Alwal Hills, and Jonnabanda. They found stagnant water where mosquito larvae were present and quickly used fogging and larvicides to tackle the issue.
In July, GHMC ran operations and awareness initiatives in over 15,500 colonies to protect residents from mosquito bites.
Around 34,45,000 households were inspected two or three times, with 1.5% of homes found to have larvae.
Awareness sessions on Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) were held in 1,700 schools and 320 colleges.
Health workers and entomology teams continue to inform people and remove breeding sites. Commissioner RV Karnan oversees daily activities to prevent diseases like dengue, malaria, and chikungunya, especially during the rainy season.
GHMC urges citizens to be cautious. The advisory includes: “See waterlogging? Avoid it and report to GHMC. Notice loose wires or poles? Stay clear and call GHMC Helpline: 040-21111111. Even small containers can breed mosquitoes; empty them. Feeling feverish? Don’t delay, get tested. Avoid parking under trees in strong winds.”
