Hyderabad: A serious food poisoning incident at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) in Erragadda, Hyderabad, has led to the termination of the diet contractor by the State Government. This unfortunate event has already resulted in one death.
On June 2, during the Telangana Formation Day celebrations, sweets given to IMH inmates caused a major outbreak. A total of 92 people fell ill, and one person died. Many in the hospital’s Non-DC ward felt sick with nausea and vomiting after eating the sweets. 74 patients are still being monitored at IMH, while 18 were sent to Osmania General Hospital for more care. Officials confirm that these patients are stable.
Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha visited IMH on Wednesday. He checked on the affected patients and confirmed they are getting better medical care. He noted that the health of all sick individuals is stable. The more severely ill patients, 18 in total, were moved to Osmania Hospital. Six medical teams, including those from Gandhi and Osmania Hospitals, are taking care of the rest. The doctors assured that none of the patients are in a life-threatening condition. They expect everyone to recover in two days, as per Narasimha.
The Minister also announced a committee to investigate this incident. He promised action against those responsible after the report is completed. A police case has been registered, and authorities are working to identify the deceased.
