Hyderabad: The Telangana Crime Investigation Department arrested Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president A Jagan Mohan Rao and four others for allegedly misusing funds. They reportedly spent over Rs 1 crore on 8,340 cricket balls that were never delivered, as per the CID’s remand report.
The CID accused the HCA officials of document forgery, fraud, and fund misappropriation. This followed a complaint from Dharam Guruva Reddy, General Secretary of the Telangana Cricket Association. A case was filed under various sections of the IPC, including 465, 468, and 420. The report highlighted that the accused ignored tender procedures and breached the Telangana Public Procurement (Transparency) Act-2017 and HCA bylaws by paying Rs 1,03,74,118 to Indiana Sports for these undelivered cricket balls.
Investigations also uncovered that Jagan Mohan Rao and others paid Rs 56.84 lakh for clothing and dress materials without following proper procurement rules. Records showed no materials were actually received or distributed.
Further findings revealed that Rao, with Rajendra Yadav and his wife G Kavitha, allegedly forged documents of the Sri Chakra cricket club, misusing signatures of C Krishna Yadav from the Gowlipura Cricket Club. These fake documents supposedly helped Rao wrongfully secure the HCA presidency.
