Hyderabad faced heavy rains on Thursday, causing widespread disruption. Traffic slowed significantly as rain continued throughout the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts more heavy rain in parts of Telangana over the next two days.

Rainfall affected areas such as Amberpet, Tarnaka, Uppal, Habsiguda, Kapra, LB Nagar, Hayathnagar, Vanasthalipuram, Malakpet, Chaderghat, Saidabad, Santosh Nagar, Himayat Nagar, Tolichowki, Hitech City, Madhapur, Nampally, and Basheerbagh. Traffic moved slowly due to intense rain, reducing visibility and causing vehicles to crawl. Many motorists were stuck in traffic during the evening rush hours.

Waterlogged roads created confusion and led to severe traffic jams in multiple areas. Conditions worsened in Hitech City, Nampally, Khairtabad, Banjara Hills, Secretariat, and Somajiguda, known for waterlogging issues. Traffic police struggled to manage the congestion, with heavy traffic reported in Punjagutta, Khairtabad, Lakadikapul, Ameerpet, and Gachibowli during peak hours.

The IMD has indicated that thunderstorms and heavy rains will continue across Telangana until July 27. In response, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan instructed officials to work closely with HYDRAA and GHMC teams during the monsoon to prevent disruptions. He stressed that Hydra leads disaster management, with GHMC officers supporting them at ward, circle, and zonal levels. HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath was also present.

RV Karnan stated that GHMC is collaborating with Hydra to tackle monsoon challenges. GHMC will handle the upkeep of open drains and inform residents in low-lying areas about water levels in collaboration with HYDRAA.

Ranganath announced that HYDRAA will manage 11 underpasses and maintain rainwater channels to prevent pooling. They will also desilt catch pits and conduct safety audits. Ranganath suggested GHMC help establish T-points for soil transport from desilting.
