Hyderabad experienced heavy rain on Thursday, disrupting daily activities. Many areas faced slow traffic due to the downpour.
Officials urged GHMC and HYDRAA to stay vigilant and ready for any issues. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad issued a yellow alert for the next two days.
Heavy rain hit parts of the city, including LB Nagar, Hayath Nagar, Uppal, and Vanasthalipuram. These areas saw severe waterlogging, affecting daily routines.
Traffic on the Vijayawada–Hyderabad national highway was heavily impacted. Vehicles stalled in deep water, especially between LB Nagar and Hayath Nagar, leading to significant delays. Traffic police managed the situation.
The rain continued throughout the day, causing traffic jams and gridlocks, particularly during peak hours.
Areas like Miyapur, Kukatpally, Moosapet, Ameerpet, Begumpet, Nampally, and parts of the Old City faced heavy rainfall.
Telangana State Development Planning Society reported rainfall measurements until 8:30 pm: Hayathnagar received 112.8 mm, Defence Colony in Hayathnagar 102.3 mm, Prashanth Nagar in Vanasthalipuram 44.5 mm, and South Hastinapuram Colony in LB Nagar 27 mm.
Motorists faced gridlocks during evening rush hours, posing challenges for schoolchildren returning home.
Traffic moved slowly in areas including Nampally, Lakdikapul, Masab Tank, Banjara Hills, Khairtabad, and the IT corridor. People were left soaked and stuck.
After the rain, Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi and officials visited Shaikpet and other areas. The Mayor emphasized addressing waterlogging to ease traffic issues.
