Hyderabad: The southwest monsoon has arrived in Telangana two weeks earlier than usual. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy to very heavy rain across the state until May 31.
Heavy rain is expected, especially in the southern parts of the state. Areas like Gadwal, Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool, and Nalgonda will likely see significant rainfall in the next 24 hours.
Over the next two days, rain will spread throughout Telangana, covering many districts. Normally, the monsoon reaches Telangana in early June, but this year it started by May 26. Some areas have already experienced rain.
Hyderabad is predicted to receive heavy rain over the next four days. Districts such as Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahbubnagar, and others will be more affected. The weather will stay mostly cloudy until the weekend.
In response to the monsoon’s impact, the state’s Disaster Management team has developed a plan in coordination with various departments like Municipal Administration, Urban Development, Panchayat Raj, Police, Irrigation, and Agriculture. Disaster management teams will be stationed in each division to assist flood-prone areas.
The Irrigation department will share information on lakes and ponds lacking safety measures. The risk of water body breaches could lead to nearby areas flooding. Officials will monitor water levels in reservoirs and canals, ready to evacuate people if necessary.
