Heavy rains hit Kamareddy and Medak Districts, status update provided

Kamareddy and Medak Districts in Telangana have faced extreme rainfall in the last 24 hours, breaking 50-year records. From August 26 to 28, the Argonda station in Rajampet mandal received 44 cm of rain, causing severe flooding. In total, 23 places saw over 20 cm of rain, including parts of Nirmal, Nizamabad, and Siddipet.

Rescue teams are actively working, with 15 State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) units and five National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams on the ground. About 100 personnel from the Army’s TASA unit in Hyderabad are also helping in Medak District.

Kamareddy District has been hit hardest, especially in the mandals of Kamareddy, Bibipet, Rajampet, Nizamsagar, Yellareddy, and Machareddy. Over 500 people have been saved, with key rescues at Boggu Gudise and Gunkal Village. Unfortunately, one person died in a wall collapse, and two were trapped in a submerged car at Neelakatta Vagu, Domakonda.

Rail services have been affected, with tracks collapsing at Rameshwarpally in Bhiknoor mandal. In Kamareddy town, Housing Board Colony and GR Colony are among the worst-hit, where food and essentials are being distributed.

Roads, including National Highway 44, have suffered severe damage, with three sections collapsing, leading to vehicle diversions from Hyderabad to Adilabad.

In Medak District, the mandals of Haveli Ghanpur, Papannapet, Ramayampet, Shankarampet (A), and Nizampet are severely affected. SDRF and Army teams, totaling 230 personnel, are leading rescue missions. Water is blocking 47 roads, flooding many culverts and bridges, with joint teams closely monitoring the situation.

Rescuers have saved many stranded people, including 350 students from a local college and 80 from a girls’ hostel. However, two people from Rajpet Village are still missing after being swept away while crossing a bridge.

In Rajanna Sircilla District, five people are stuck on a small island due to flooding from the Upper Manair dam, with NDRF teams trying to rescue them. Bad weather on August 28 halted efforts.

Nirmal District has experienced heavy rain, forcing about 250 families to relocate due to flooding. Siddipet and Nizamabad Districts also report significant flooding, needing assistance.

Telangana’s Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, is monitoring the situation and coordinating with district officials for a quick response. A tele-conference with senior officials, including the Revenue, Industries, IT, and Agriculture Ministers, was held on August 27 to plan state support for the affected districts.
