Hyderabad: A joint operation by the Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (HNEW) and Chaderghat police led to the arrest of four individuals for drug trafficking. Authorities seized 74 bottles of mephentermine sulphate injections valued at Rs 1.28 lakhs.
Those taken into custody include Mohd Imran Ali (32), known as Kala Imran, a pan shop owner with a criminal record; Ranga Shanker Goud (65), owner of Chakrika Medical Store; Dharamkar Ritesh Kumar (32), an employee at Apollo Pharmacy; and Dharamkar Mohit Kumar (31), a finance recovery agent.
Police revealed that Imran, a resident of Malakpet, was addicted to mephentermine sulphate injections. He transitioned to selling these drugs, sourcing them from a dealer in Delhi and locally from Ritesh at discounted prices, which he sold for profit.
YVS Sudheendra, DCP of HNEW, explained that Shanker, who operates a medical store, acquired the drug from Vaishnavi Drug House. His acquaintance with Ritesh began during their tenure at Woodland Hospital. Imran sought the injections from Apollo Pharmacy, offering to pay more without a prescription. He regularly purchased from Ritesh, and during shortages, he turned to Shanker or Ritesh’s brother, Mohit.
The arrests were made on August 16 with the illegal injections in their possession.
HNEW advised the community to avoid drugs and encouraged parents to monitor their children’s activities. They requested anyone with information on drug abuse to contact them at 8712661601 to support the goal of a drug-free Hyderabad.
