Hyderabad witnessed scenes of chaos at petrol pumps on April 28, 2026, as residents reported massive queues stretching up to a kilometer at fuel stations across the city. Social media posts from local residents and journalists showed vehicles lined up for hundreds of meters, with several bunks displaying “No Stock” signs, particularly for diesel. Traffic police were deployed at multiple locations to manage the overwhelming crowds and resulting traffic disruptions.

Multiple petrol stations across the city have put up boards indicating no availability of petrol or diesel, while some bunks have shut down operations entirely due to the rush. The panic buying has created visible chaos, with commuters struggling to refuel their vehicles. Eyewitness accounts suggest that overall city traffic appeared lighter than usual, likely because many motorists stayed home fearing they would not find fuel for their return journey.

The Telangana government and the Civil Supplies Department have strongly denied any actual fuel shortage in the state. Officials stated that supplies are adequate and exceeding demand. According to government data, on April 27 alone, 11,490 KL of petrol and 18,449 KL of diesel were supplied to the city. Authorities have urged citizens not to engage in panic buying or hoarding of fuel, emphasizing that such behavior creates artificial shortages.

Union government sources and oil marketing companies, including BPCL, have attributed the panic to misleading and mischievous rumors about potential price hikes or supply disruptions. They categorically denied any shortage and confirmed that restocking operations are currently underway at affected stations. Oil company representatives labeled the social media posts as false information that has unnecessarily triggered public anxiety.

Public anger has mounted significantly as residents demand immediate clarification from the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office, City Police, and Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy. Social media posts reflect widespread confusion and criticism of what many perceive as a slow government response to address public concerns. Daily commuters have expressed frustration over the inconvenience caused by the long waiting times at fuel stations.

The situation appears to be primarily driven by panic buying rather than a genuine supply crisis, but the visible queues and closed stations have created real hardship for ordinary citizens. Nearby areas surrounding Hyderabad have also reported similar scenes at fuel stations, with motorists uncertain about when normalcy will return. The combination of rumor-driven anxiety and actual supply chain delays at individual stations has compounded the problem.

Authorities continue to appeal for calm and have asked citizens to rely only on verified information from official government channels and local administration. The government has assured that fuel supplies remain stable and sufficient to meet the city’s demand, urging people to avoid unnecessary trips to petrol pumps that could worsen the artificial shortage situation.
