Hyderabad is facing a rise in temperatures and an increase in fire incidents, prompting city officials to take action. On Tuesday, the Hyderabad Police and the Fire Services Department launched a fire safety awareness program for business owners across the city.
The event took place at Arya Vysya Abhyudaya Sangam on PG Road in Secunderabad. Leading the drive were ACP Saidaiah of Mahankali Division, along with fire officer Shankar, local police SHOs, and other fire department staff.
They met with shop owners from the Mahankali area to highlight the importance of fire prevention, especially during the hot summer months when fire risks are highest. The officials stressed that most fires can be avoided if basic safety measures are in place.
Business owners learned how to protect their properties by following simple steps, like checking electrical wiring, avoiding clutter near heat sources, and storing flammable items safely. The fire officers also demonstrated how to use fire extinguishers and other emergency equipment.
Fire and police officials also explained how to safely evacuate people during an emergency and rescue those trapped inside buildings. Shopkeepers were urged to train their staff and stay alert, especially in commercial complexes where the danger is greater.
The Fire Services Department noted that fires often break out in places like scrap yards, furniture workshops, and small factories where flammable materials are commonly stored. These areas are particularly vulnerable during extreme heat or lightning storms.
To reduce these risks, the department has launched a city-wide action plan. This includes regular evacuation drills and awareness campaigns at high-risk locations such as schools, hospitals, shopping malls, office buildings, and event halls.
Officials say the goal is to educate the public and prepare them to act quickly and safely during fire emergencies. With summer heating up, they urge everyone to stay alert and follow safety guidelines to protect lives and property.
