Over 50 shop owners attend coordination meeting; mandatory CCTV, panic buttons, and verification protocols enforced
Hyderabad, November 26, 2025 – The Hyderabad City Police have issued comprehensive security guidelines to jewellery shops and high-value electronic goods stores in the North Zone, warning of strict legal action against establishments found buying or dealing in stolen property.
High-Level Coordination Meeting
As per instructions from the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City, a coordination meeting was convened by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Zone, on November 26, 2025, with representatives of jewellery shops, associations, and owners/managers of high-value electronic goods establishments.
Over 50 representatives attended the meeting along with ACPs and SHOs of North Zone.
Objective: Security and Compliance
The meeting aimed to ensure that all high-value establishments, particularly jewellery stores and electronic goods shops, function strictly in accordance with statutory regulations, security norms, and provisions under the Telangana State Public Safety Act and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Warning Against Buying Stolen Goods
Jewellery owners were specifically instructed not to purchase gold or ornaments from unknown, unverified, or suspicious sources. Police emphasized that offenders involved in thefts or chain-snatching often attempt to sell stolen jewellery to shops.
“Buying from such sources may indirectly encourage criminal activity,” police warned, adding that strict legal action will be taken against any establishment found buying or dealing in stolen property, knowingly or unknowingly.
Mandatory Security Measures
The following instructions were issued for strict compliance:
CCTV Installation: Mandatory round-the-clock coverage at entrances, counters, safes, storage areas, trial rooms, cash counters, and periphery areas with adequate backup as prescribed under the Public Safety Act
Emergency Systems: Panic buttons, emergency alert systems, and alarm mechanisms for quick police intimation during emergencies
Customer Verification: Proper maintenance of records for high-value purchases, buy-back transactions, gold exchange activity, and bulk electronic purchases
Employee Background Verification: Complete background checks of all staff including sales personnel, delivery staff, security guards, and technicians with updated antecedent records
Anti-Fraud Awareness: Staff training on cyber-fraud risks including QR code scams, UPI frauds, and fake payment screenshots
Physical Security: Proper lighting, trained security personnel at all entry/exit points, with strict supervision to ensure night-duty guards remain alert (lapses such as guards sleeping pose serious security risks)
Structural Security Audit: Thorough inspection of shared walls, adjacent building structures, ventilation gaps, AC openings, and similar access points to prevent unauthorized entry
Strengthened Locks and Alarms: Grill doors, double-locking systems, burglar alarms, reinforced mechanisms for showcases, shutters, and vault rooms with regular equipment inspection
Event Notification: Prior intimation to local police before special sales, festival discounts, promotional events, or collection launches that may attract large crowds
Zero Tolerance for Stolen Property: Complete prohibition on purchasing or accepting used items without proper verification
Communication Channels: Quick communication links between association representatives, shop management, and local police for timely information sharing on theft attempts, fraud incidents, or suspicious activities
Security as Priority
Police emphasized that owners and managers must implement robust security mechanisms in and around their establishments to ensure they do not become targets or vulnerable points for criminal activities.
The comprehensive guidelines reflect the police department’s proactive approach to preventing crimes against high-value establishments while also ensuring these businesses don’t inadvertently facilitate criminal activity through lax security or verification procedures.
Establishments found violating these guidelines will face action under relevant provisions of law.
