Hyderabad police recently convened a meeting with members of the transgender community to address growing concerns about alleged extortion and nuisance during social functions across the city.

The meeting focused on complaints received from citizens regarding incidents at marriages, house-warming ceremonies, and other social occasions. According to police officials, large amounts of money are reportedly being demanded from hosts in the guise of blessings, causing significant inconvenience and apprehension among the public.

During the discussion, several members of the transgender community raised their own concerns about operational challenges. They highlighted difficulties in identifying local residents versus outsiders within their community due to the non-availability of identity cards.

The transgender representatives requested authorities to issue proper identification cards to help distinguish genuine local community members from those coming from outside areas. This measure, they suggested, would help in better regulation and accountability.

Hyderabad police issued a stern warning to the community members present at the meeting. Officials clearly stated that the community should not resort to intimidation or extortion in any form during social functions.

The police made it explicit that continuation of such practices would invite criminal action as per law. This warning aims to curb the growing number of complaints from citizens who feel harassed during their private celebrations.

The meeting represents an effort by law enforcement to balance community rights with public safety concerns. While acknowledging the legitimate needs of the transgender community, police emphasized that unlawful behavior would not be tolerated.

The issue of alleged extortion during social functions has been a recurring complaint in various parts of Hyderabad. Many families have reported feeling pressured to pay substantial amounts to avoid disruption of their events.

The police department’s proactive approach in organizing this meeting demonstrates their commitment to addressing the issue through dialogue while maintaining law and order. The discussion also provided a platform for the transgender community to voice their concerns about identification and recognition.

Authorities have made it clear that any form of intimidation or illegal demands during social functions will result in appropriate legal action against the perpetrators.
