The Hyderabad-Srisailam route is known for its narrow, winding roads through dense forests. This has made it a challenging and sometimes dangerous path for travelers, especially at night. Due to safety concerns, authorities restrict vehicle movement after 9 p.m. on this route. To solve these problems and handle the growing traffic, officials have proposed building an elevated corridor between Hyderabad and Srisailam.

The new elevated corridor is expected to improve the road connection between the two cities. The current road has many narrow sections that are accident-prone, and with an increase in traffic expected in the future, it could get worse. To fix this, the government plans to widen the two-lane road into a four-lane highway. The elevated corridor will pass through key wildlife areas to ensure smoother traffic flow and safer travel.

This project will go through two important natural areas—the Amrabad Tiger Reserve and the Nallamala forest. Since these areas are home to many animals, including tigers, environmental concerns have been raised. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Surface Transport are working closely with Telangana’s Forest Department to make sure the project follows all environmental and safety rules. The elevated corridor will be built about 30 feet above ground to reduce its impact on the animals and their habitats.

The entire road-widening project will cover a distance of 128.6 km to 191 km, with much of the work happening in Telangana. Specifically, the stretch from Brahmanapalli, near Mannanur, to Patalaganga will see major upgrades, and 45.42 km of this will include the elevated structure. This elevated road will allow traffic to move without disturbing the forest below.

One of the challenges in this project is land acquisition. About 150 hectares of land, including some forest areas, will need to be acquired. Surveys have already been conducted to determine the land needed, and the Forest Department is involved to ensure that the environment is disturbed as little as possible.

Currently, vehicles are not allowed on the road from Mannanur Checkpost to Domalapenta Checkpost between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. to protect the wildlife that roams the area. Once the elevated corridor is completed, this restriction will be lifted, allowing vehicles to travel at any time of the day. This will greatly help in managing traffic on this busy highway.

To minimize environmental damage, the Telangana Forest Department has asked for careful planning. They want to limit how many trees are cut down and reduce the disturbance to the animals living in the forest. The elevated road will have minimal lighting at night to avoid disrupting nocturnal animals.

Officials believe that this project will not only make traveling between Hyderabad and Srisailam safer and faster but also set an example for other infrastructure projects in environmentally sensitive areas. By using eco-friendly methods during construction, the Hyderabad-Srisailam elevated corridor will aim to protect the wildlife and natural resources while improving transportation.
