Hyderabad is set to witness a major infrastructure boost as the state government has proposed a third elevated corridor to tackle traffic congestion in the rapidly expanding western part of the city.

The Telangana government has announced plans for a nine-kilometre elevated corridor that will connect the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) near Banjara Hills Road No. 12 to the Shilpa Layout Flyover Road. This comes after the approval of two other elevated corridors from Paradise Junction to Shamirpet ORR and Paradise Junction to Dairy Farm Road on NH-44.

The proposed corridor has been designed with future expansion in mind. It will accommodate Metro Rail on the same pier system, making it a forward-looking infrastructure project that addresses both current and future transport needs.

Officials expect the new elevated link to significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks at several key junctions including Filmnagar, Road No. 45, Jubilee Hills Checkpost, Hitec City approach road and the broader IT corridor. The project aims to improve mobility, reduce pollution caused by idling vehicles, and enhance overall transport efficiency in the western region of the city.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has been assigned the responsibility of conducting a comprehensive feasibility study. This study will cover structural alignment, land acquisition requirements, environmental impact assessment and traffic patterns in the area.

If the feasibility study yields positive results, the project will be implemented under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) model. The HMDA will appoint technical, financial and legal consultants to prepare the feasibility report, Detailed Project Report (DPR) and bid documents.

The appointed consultants will be responsible for multiple critical tasks. They will assess traffic demand, design preliminary road and bridge structures, plan utility relocation, and develop accurate cost estimates. Field surveys will be conducted to finalise alignment, determine bridge locations and design intersection layouts.

The western corridor of Hyderabad, particularly areas around Hitec City and the IT corridor, has witnessed exponential growth in recent years, leading to severe traffic congestion during peak hours. The proposed elevated corridor is expected to provide much-needed relief to daily commuters and improve connectivity in one of the city’s most economically important zones.
