Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has reclaimed a public park in Yellareddyguda by removing illegal structures. The operation, conducted on Sunday, freed 1,533 square yards of space next to the Madhura Nagar Metro Railway Station.

This action followed a complaint from the Sai Saradhi Nagar Residents Welfare Association through the Prajavani public grievance program. Upon receiving the complaint, HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath initiated a thorough investigation. Several departments worked together to check land records.

HYDRAA found that the encroachments dated back to 1961. At that time, 35 plots across 5 acres were developed as Sai Saradhi Nagar, with the area now cleared intended as a park. Descendants of Narayan Prasad had illegally taken over the land, building a shed and never leaving it for public use. Investigations revealed that they had also acquired a house number for their structure through alleged manipulation of official systems.

Residents had repeatedly complained to the GHMC without success. With no action from GHMC, they turned to HYDRAA, which quickly cleared the illegal structures. To prevent future issues, a sign stating “Protected by HYDRAA” now marks the site as public park land.

Residents, who have waited over sixty years for the park’s restoration, are relieved. HYDRAA officials have warned that any future encroachments on public land will face strict action.
