Hyderabad:
Ahead of World Intellectual Property Day, the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) held a special event called “Celebrating Innovation, Empowering the Future” at its campus in Hyderabad.
During the event, two important agreements were signed. ICRISAT announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BITS Pilani and an intellectual property (IP) licensing agreement with Eco-Paryavaran. The licensing deal involves ICRISAT’s Solar Water Hyacinth Harvester, a technology designed to help manage water plants.
Speaking at the event, Professor V Ramgopal Rao, Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani, said that the MoU will help encourage innovation across different fields. He added that BITS plans to use its expertise in engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and start-ups to solve important problems in agriculture and the environment.
Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Director General of ICRISAT, explained that their IP strategy is not just about protecting inventions, but also about building partnerships. He said that by working together, they can deliver important technologies to farmers and promote innovation in the future.
