Hyderabad: On Friday, Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy announced plans to build Indiramma Houses in urban areas with G+3 floors. This initiative aims to help the poor own homes without disrupting their livelihoods.
During a meeting with officials, the Minister discussed the government’s efforts to provide housing for the poor. The construction of Indiramma Houses has nearly finished in rural areas, and now the focus is on urban regions.
The Minister noted that many slum residents prefer to stay in the city as relocating far from Hyderabad impacts their jobs. Previously, 42,000 homes were built outside the city, but only 19,000 people moved in, with a recent survey showing only 13,000 still residing there.
To address this, the government plans to build Indiramma Indlu in urban slums, starting with 16 identified areas in Hyderabad. Similar projects will expand to other cities like Warangal, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, and Karimnagar.
Srinivasa Reddy highlighted that 13,266 houses have been approved for tribal groups such as Chenchu, Kolam, Thoti, and Kondared in areas like Bhadrachalam, Utnoor, Eturunagaram, and Munnanur. Additionally, 8,750 more houses are sanctioned for 16 tribal constituencies, totaling 22,016 homes for the tribal community.
The Minister urged officials to quickly identify beneficiaries and begin construction. Continuous monitoring is essential to align with the government’s proactive approach in building Indiramma houses.
He emphasized that no other state government has invested ₹5 lakh per house for the poor. The goal is to deliver on election promises by providing homes to every eligible person, and authorities are expected to meet this commitment.
