Hyderabad: On February 11, the Telangana government assigned IAS officer Jayesh Ranjan as the Special Officer for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation. This move comes after the five-year term of the GHMC Council concluded on February 10.
The government decided to split the existing GHMC into three separate entities: Greater Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri. This change follows the December merger of 27 municipalities on Hyderabad’s outskirts into GHMC, making it a mega city, increasing its size from 650 sq km to 2,053 sq km. This expansion prompted the need for reorganization to meet administrative needs.
According to the new arrangement, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation will include the Serilingampally, Kukatpally, and Qutbullapur zones. Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation will cover the Malkajgiri, L B Nagar, and Uppal zones. The remaining areas with zones like Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, Charminar, Golconda, Khairatabad, and Secunderabad will retain the GHMC name.
IAS officers G Srijana and T Vinay Krishna Reddy have been appointed as Commissioners for the Cyberabad and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporations, respectively. Meanwhile, R V Karnan will continue as GHMC Commissioner after the reorganization.
Additionally, the government has implemented transfers and postings for several Non-Cadre Officers. S. Pankaja has been moved to Executive Director, HMWS&SB, Malkajgiri, from her role as Additional Commissioner, Urban Community Development, GHMC. Samrat Ashok Nama is now Executive Director, HMWS&SB, Hyderabad. M. Santhosh has been transferred to Executive Director, HMWS&SB, Cyberabad, from District Registrar, Rangareddy. K. Shashikiranachary is now Joint Secretary, Lok Bhavan, from his previous position as Assistant Director, Employment & Training. These changes aim to fulfill administrative needs and ensure efficient operations.
