Kodangal: On Monday, Kodangal town became the center of attention as many Anganwadi workers held a surprise sit-in protest at the busy RTC bus stand. They demanded the cancellation of a new pre-primary education system in Anganwadi centers.
The protesters shouted slogans, expressing that the new system increased their workload without providing additional staff or resources. They claimed this policy added teaching duties on top of their existing responsibilities for nutrition programs and early childhood care.
Traffic was halted as curious onlookers gathered. Local shopkeepers expressed concern over the disruption, and commuters faced delays of nearly an hour.
The situation intensified when police arrived to disperse the crowd. A scuffle broke out between an angry Anganwadi worker and the police, leading to a brief confrontation. Police quickly detained several protesters, cleared the road, and restored traffic flow.
Officials promised to forward the workers’ demands to the Women and Child Welfare Department for review. After negotiations, the protesters reluctantly ended their demonstration but warned they would return if the government did not address their issues.
