Hyderabad: KT Rama Rao, the BRS Working President, criticized Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday for his poor handling of the severe floods in Telangana. He likened the Chief Minister to Emperor Nero, accusing him of focusing on projects like the Musi River beautification and the Olympics while floods ravaged the state.
During his visit to flood-hit areas in the Kamareddy and Sircilla districts, Rao demanded urgent aid for those who lost everything. He expressed outrage that while floods caused chaos, the Chief Minister held meetings about the Musi project and Olympics. “It’s a disgrace,” he said, comparing Revanth Reddy to Nero, who fiddled as Rome burned.
Rama Rao accused the state government of failing to alert the public in time, despite over one lakh cusecs of water entering the Manair River. He called this negligence a serious threat to people’s lives. Rao also claimed that the delay in rescue efforts was due to state helicopters being used for the Congress’s election campaign in Bihar.
He highlighted the prompt response of the former BRS government under K Chandrashekar Rao, who quickly deployed helicopters to aid flood victims in Mancherial and Bhupalapally districts.
KTR criticized the current administration for not preparing for the monsoon season and urged them to act on recent weather forecasts predicting heavy rains in the next four days. He demanded compensation of Rs 25 lakh for each life lost, Rs 25,000 per acre for crop damage, and new homes for those who lost theirs. He acknowledged government officials’ efforts to reduce loss of life and property despite what he described as the government’s inaction. He called on the Central government to assist the state in this critical situation.
