Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Wednesday described farmer suicides as “government murders” and blamed the current crisis on the poor decisions and unfulfilled promises of Revanth Reddy’s government. Speaking to the media after the first meeting of a party study committee formed to investigate farmer suicides in the state, KTR emphasized that the committee had no political agenda. Its sole purpose, he said, was to understand the issue and support farmers. He added that a recent tragic incident, where a farmer committed suicide at a bank in Adilabad, prompted the formation of this committee.

The committee will begin its work in Adilabad district on January 24. Over the next month, it plans to visit all districts to interact with farmers and study issues such as loan waivers, electricity supply, farming conditions, support prices, bonuses, purchase centers, and the effectiveness of Rythu Vedikas. The committee will evaluate the challenges farmers face, analyze the reasons behind suicides, and submit its report to Chief Minister KCR and the state government. According to KTR, KCR’s concern for farmers is unmatched among current leaders.

KTR highlighted what he called “revolutionary initiatives” introduced by the BRS government, such as Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, 24-hour free electricity, and the abolition of land revenue and water taxes. He also mentioned projects like Mission Kakatiya to restore water bodies, the Palamuru Rangareddy lift irrigation scheme, and the Kaleshwaram and Sitarama projects.

He further claimed that the BRS government had distributed over 6.47 lakh ration cards through Mee-Seva centers during its tenure. Unlike the previous Congress government, KTR said, BRS does not rely on exaggerated publicity. He accused the Congress-led government of ignoring public grievances, filing illegal cases against opposition leaders, and arresting people over social media posts.
