Telangana‘s leader, Revanth Reddy, is pushing for a 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs). He urges the central government to get the President’s quick approval. Speaking in Delhi on Thursday, he showed optimism that the President would decide independently on the bill.
Revanth Reddy said, “We will wait until this evening to meet the President. If not, it seems the Prime Minister may have influenced the situation.” He stressed the need to act fast on the 42% reservation.
The Chief Minister discussed three ways to implement the BC reservations. The first way is by issuing a Government Order (GO) to bypass the 50% reservation limit set by the previous government. This might face legal issues and could be temporarily blocked in court. However, it may not work for the upcoming local elections.
The second option is to postpone local elections. He warned that this could stop central funding and affect vital services in rural areas. The last option is to push for 42% BC representation through party allocations and seek cooperation from other political parties to ensure fair representation.
