Hyderabad’s Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi has instructed officials to address street problems within two days. She recently reviewed the maintenance of street lights with Commissioner Ronald Rose and electricity department officials at the GHMC headquarters.

During the meeting, Vijayalakshmi acknowledged that previous promises to resolve complaints promptly have not been fulfilled due to a lack of buffer stock. This has resulted in numerous complaints and allegations from residents and local representatives.

The Mayor explained that although the GHMC allocates funds for monthly charges to the electric department, the necessary buffer stock for the city is not being prepared due to funds being allocated to other municipalities in the State. As a result, complaints cannot be immediately resolved.

Vijayalakshmi highlighted that there are instances where street lights are switched on during the day and off at night. These complaints have been reported from various areas across the city.
