In a big setback for the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) before the 2024 Assembly elections, Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, the MLA of Mangalagiri, has resigned from the party and as an MLA. He handed in his resignation on Monday, citing personal reasons. Ramakrishna Reddy expressed gratitude towards Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for giving him the opportunity to serve as an MLA twice. He mentioned that he will soon reveal more details about his resignation from the YSRCP and as an MLA.
Ramakrishna Reddy, who defeated TDP leader Nara Lokesh in the 2019 Assembly elections, has been loyal to the YS Rajasekhar Reddy (YSR) family for many years. However, he became unhappy with the party when they failed to allocate funds to his constituency. The State Government had promised to provide Rs 1,250 crore to the constituency but conveniently ignored it, leading Ramakrishna Reddy to leave the party.
The internal conflicts among YSRCP leaders in the Mangalagiri constituency have recently escalated. The city president of Mangalagiri Tadepalli, Donthireddy Vemareddy, opened his own office despite the MLA already having one. Additionally, the MLA’s followers accused Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of not taking any action to resolve the internal conflicts within the party. These factors contributed to Ramakrishna Reddy’s decision to resign from the YSRCP and as an MLA.
