Hyderabad: The Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) is pushing forward with its mission to restore and improve the Musi River and its surroundings. On Thursday, MRDCL Managing Director E.V. Narasimha Reddy and a team of senior officials visited the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs to assess the current situation.
The inspection focused on the Musi and Isa rivers, especially their water inflow and outflow patterns. Officials examined how water moves through the area and evaluated the reservoirs’ roles in managing this flow.
Executive Director Satyanarayana gave a detailed report on the water capacity of both reservoirs. He also explained the key infrastructure in place and how it supports water movement from these critical sources.
The Telangana State Government has launched an ambitious plan to breathe new life into the Musi River. In the first phase, the project will develop a 20.5-kilometer stretch along two river streams, starting beyond Bapughat and reaching up to the twin reservoirs.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has made it clear that the goal is not just to clean the river but to turn the surrounding buffer zones into world-class recreational areas. This means reviving the river first and then transforming the banks into attractive public spaces.
During the visit, Narasimha Reddy led a detailed discussion on bringing fresh water into the Musi and solving technical challenges along the way. The team also reviewed data on the lands and rivers between Bapughat, Musi, and Isa.
Key figures involved in the inspection included Joint Managing Director Gauthami, Chief Engineer Dattupanth, experts from Meinhart Consultants, and Brijesh, Superintendent Engineer from Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB).
This inspection marks a major step in the long-term plan to restore the Musi River and turn it into a clean, vibrant part of Hyderabad’s landscape.
