Wanaparthy: Syed Sahajadi, a member of the National Minority Commission, emphasized the need to ensure that development and welfare schemes from both the Central and State Governments reach the deserving beneficiaries. These efforts aim to uplift minority communities.
On Tuesday, commission members visited Wanaparthy district. During the visit, a meeting was held at the District I.D.O.C hall, led by Collector Adarsh Surabhi and other officials. They reviewed the implementation of the 15-point program, which focuses on the welfare of minority communities.
Syed Sahajadi inquired about how these welfare schemes are being implemented in the district. He specifically asked about the schools for minority students, such as how many schools exist, whether they are on government land, and the number of students enrolled.
The District Education Officer (DEO) reported that the district has 15 Urdu medium primary schools and 3 high schools, with a total of 652 students. The DEO also mentioned that a significant number of minority students are studying in other government schools.
The commission directed the education department to ensure that school environments are clean. Special attention should be given to maintaining clean toilets, and officials were urged to regularly visit schools to monitor sanitation.
The review also covered other welfare activities like skill training programs, construction of shadikhanas (community halls), the Pradhan Mantri Jan Awas Yojana, and the management of waqf lands.
RDO Padmavati provided updates on these initiatives. She mentioned that several shadikhanas have been sanctioned, with some already completed and others still under construction. Additionally, the district has provided subsidized loans of one lakh rupees to 100 people and distributed 280 sewing machines. Furthermore, 9809 minority students have received a post matric scholarship totaling Rs. 652 lakh. The construction work for common halls at mosques is also ongoing.
Concerns were raised about waqf land encroachments in Ghanpur mandal, where 21 acres of land have been occupied illegally. Similar issues were reported in Atmakur. In response, the commission members instructed the Tehsildar to take immediate action to address these encroachments.
District Collector Adarsh Surabhi assured that the district administration is committed to ensuring that all eligible individuals have access to the welfare schemes meant for minority communities.
District Superintendent of Police (SP) R. Giridhar reported that there have been no cases of triple talaq in the district, and there are no significant law and order issues.
Earlier in the day, the commission members were welcomed by the district collector and SP with bouquets. The meeting was also attended by Additional Collector Local Bodies Sanchit Gangwar, Additional Collector Revenue M. Nagesh, RDO Padmavathi, District Officers, Tehsildars, and other officials.
