Doctors at the Government General Hospital and Medical College in Nalgonda continued their protest for the second day, demanding the cancellation of an order by District Collector C Narayana Reddy. The order was issued earlier in the week following complaints of doctors not being available at the hospital.
The Collector’s order was to investigate if doctors were using biometric attendance, conducting lab tests, maintaining sanitation, providing quality meals for patients, and ensuring proper infrastructure. The doctors refused to accept supervision from other departments and demanded the cancellation of the order, leading to a widespread protest and service boycott.
On Friday, there were no doctors available in the ENT, eye, skin, and ortho departments, causing long queues of patients and severe difficulties. Senior and junior doctors from all departments participated in the protest, leaving patients waiting for treatment.
Despite the agitation, senior and junior doctors continued to provide services in the ICU, Maternal and Child Health Centre, and Emergency Services Department. A negotiation meeting with the Doctors Association State Delegation (TTGDA) led to necessary modifications being agreed upon, resulting in the doctors calling off their protest and resuming duties in the afternoon.
