OU hosts international symposium on Indo-Pacific geopolitics

Hyderabad: To encourage academic discussion on global issues, the Department of Political Science at Osmania University held an international symposium on Thursday. The event, titled “India, Japan, and the USA in the Indo-Pacific: Navigating Uncertain Times,” took place at the University College of Arts and Social Sciences.

The symposium brought together diplomats, scholars, and policymakers to talk about the changing political situation in the Indo-Pacific region. They also discussed the growing importance of cooperation between India, Japan, and the United States.

Professor Kumar Molugaram, Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University, opened the event as the Chief Guest. He spoke about the strategic importance of working together in the Indo-Pacific and stressed India’s key role in keeping the region free, open, and inclusive.

Professor C Kaseem, Principal of the University College of Arts and Social Sciences, attended as the Guest of Honor. He highlighted how academic events like this help people better understand regional cooperation.

The keynote speaker was Sayo Saruta, Director of the New Diplomatic Initiative in Japan. She spoke about the need for strong democracies, international cooperation, and shared responsibilities to maintain peace in the Indo-Pacific. She also suggested new areas for India and Japan to work together, especially in handling global challenges and supporting international rules.

A panel of experts shared their views during the event. R Radhakrishnan, an official with the Telangana State Council for Higher Education, discussed India’s changing foreign policy in the Indo-Pacific. Dr. Sanjay Pulipaka, Chairman of the Politeia Research Foundation, talked about how India needs to balance its values with practical decisions in its diplomacy.

Dr. Kanika Rakhra, Assistant Professor at the Kautilya School of Public Policy, spoke about how both ideas and institutions affect regional cooperation. Professor J L N Rao, Director of the Institute of Indo-Pacific at Osmania University, explained how India’s historical and cultural background shapes its foreign policy today.

The symposium was coordinated by Professor V Srilatha (Convenor), Professor M Krishnakumar (Session Chair), and Dr. Chalamalla Venkateshwarlu (Co-Convener). Their efforts helped create a lively exchange of ideas and discussions on important global topics.

Many research scholars and students actively participated, showing a growing interest in Indo-Pacific studies and international strategy. The event marks a strong step in Osmania University’s goal of promoting global understanding and preparing future thinkers and leaders for a complex world.
