Hyderabad: Osmania University recently received the ACE-2025 Award in the Higher Education Institute category at the India Circular Economy Forum Meet in Gurugram. Prof. Kumar Molugaram, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, accepted the award, which highlights the institution’s dedication to sustainability and innovation in promoting the circular economy.

The ACE-2025 Awards recognize institutions that excel in enhancing circularity through education, research, and practical initiatives. Prof. Kumar Molugaram, in his speech, expressed great honor in receiving the award. He emphasized Osmania University’s commitment to incorporating sustainability and circularity into its academic framework. As a Green Campus, the university has successfully applied circular economy principles and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across various disciplines, while also leading innovative research. The university operates a biogas plant processing 2 tonnes of food waste daily, supported by KPMG and SAAHAS NGO, turning waste from 17 kitchens into clean energy and a nutrient-rich slurry for green areas. Additionally, the university enforces strict policies on solid waste, e-waste management, and energy sustainability.

Prof. Kumar further stated that the award motivates the university to broaden its initiatives, build partnerships, and inspire future leaders in the circular economy. He also praised the Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Studies, led by Prof. C. Srinivasulu, for its significant contributions to sustainable development and circular economy practices.
