The Telangana government has started taking action based on the findings of the Justice Ghose Commission. This commission examined problems in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) and submitted its report.
For 15 months, the commission investigated issues like the sinking of some piers at the Medigadda barrage and damages to the Annaram and Sundilla barrages. On Thursday, Justice PC Ghose handed the detailed three-volume report to Rahul Bojja, the principal secretary of irrigation, at the Secretariat.
On Friday, Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao, Irrigation Secretary Prashant Patil, and Joint Secretary Srinivas presented the report to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, and Revenue Minister P Srinivas Reddy were present.
Chief Minister Reddy quickly formed a three-member committee to review the report. This committee, which includes Irrigation Secretary Prashant Patil and other departmental secretaries, will prepare a summary for the state Cabinet by August 4.
The KLIP project, with over Rs 1 lakh crore spent by the former Bharat Rashtra Samithi government, became a contentious issue before the 2023 Assembly elections. Opposition parties accused the government of corruption and mismanagement, citing design flaws, structural issues, and poor maintenance.
