Political parties and leaders in Hyderabad are hosting lavish Iftar parties to attract Muslim voters during the upcoming elections. These parties are especially important in Greater Hyderabad, where minority votes play a significant role in deciding the outcome.
Attending or organizing Iftar parties during the holy month of Ramzan is a common practice among political leaders in the state. Originally meant as a show of solidarity with the Muslim community, these parties have now become a platform for politicians to make promises and reassure Muslims about their political schemes.
This year, all major political parties in the state are competing with each other to host grand Iftar parties and reaffirm their commitments to the Muslim population. The ruling party Congress organized a large Dawat-e-Iftar event, attended by various political leaders, including AIMIM, and over 5,000 people.
During these events, leaders like Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy made promises to the Muslim community to secure their votes. For example, Revanth Reddy assured that Muslim reservation in Telangana would not be removed by national leaders like Amit Shah or Narendra Modi.
Other political leaders are also attending Iftar parties as chief guests, while party members are spending significant amounts of money on hosting these events. Some parties are said to have spent up to Rs 3 lakh or more on lavish Iftar parties with dinner included.
The AIMIM party, which has strong support among Muslims, has been actively participating in Iftar parties across different areas within the Hyderabad parliamentary constituency. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has been seen attending these gatherings in various locations and engaging with members of different communities.
In addition to hosting Iftar parties, local leaders of different political parties in Old City are distributing groceries to the poor and needy. These efforts are part of the larger strategy by political parties to reach out to voters and increase their influence ahead of the elections.
