Hyderabad continues to take strong action against illegal liquor sales. The South Zone Task Force, alongside Mirchowk Police, recently arrested P. Narsing Rao, a 62-year-old man, for selling liquor unlawfully from his home in the Old City.
For many years, Rao discreetly ran his business in Mirchowk. He bought Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in large quantities from legal wine shops. During official store closures or dry days, Rao would open his home to sell popular liquor brands at higher prices without the need for a license.
Acting on solid information, the Task Force caught Rao in the act of selling liquor from his house. They seized 57.2 liters of liquor, totaling 318 bottles, valued at approximately Rs 60,000. This operation showed Rao’s strategy of breaking excise laws to make extra profit by selling during restricted times.
After his arrest, Rao and the seized liquor were taken to Mirchowk Police Station. A case was filed under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 34(A) of the Excise Act.
Inspector K. Adireddy led the operation with support from SIs M. Mahesh, Mohd Samiuz Zama, N. Naveen, and other officers from Mirchowk Police. This successful operation warns others involved in illegal liquor trade that police enforcement is tightening, and the chances of getting caught are increasing.
