Bhadrachalam, Telangana – In a move to build trust with locals and weaken Maoist influence, police held a special outreach event on Tuesday in Chennapuram, a border village near Chhattisgarh, located in Cherla mandal.
The area is known for Maoist activity, so police began by carefully checking every home in the village. This inspection aimed to ensure safety and show the villagers that the authorities are watching out for them.
After the inspection, officers gathered with villagers. They handed out clothes and essential supplies to the women and children. To encourage youth participation and healthy activities, they also distributed volleyball kits.
Vikrant Kumar Singh, the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) for Bhadrachalam, spoke during the event. He assured the people that the Police Department is committed to supporting tribal communities in areas affected by Maoists. Under the leadership of District SP Rohit Raju, he said, efforts are underway to improve education, healthcare, and transportation for these remote villages.
He also urged villagers to stay alert. If they see any unknown individuals arriving in the village, they should report it immediately. He reminded them not to support or shelter banned Maoist groups.
The event saw participation from around 90 families, including women, children, and young people. Key officers present included Cherla CI Raju Varma, SIs Kesava and Narsi Reddy, along with members of the CRPF and Special Party forces.
The outreach is part of a broader plan to connect with rural communities and reduce the Maoists’ hold in the region.
