Hyderabad: Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy is using his knowledge in real estate to help build low-cost Indiramma houses for the poor. He encouraged engineers to reach out to him if they face any challenges during the construction process.
Speaking at the National Academy of Construction (NAC) on Saturday, the minister handed out certificates to newly trained engineers. He shared that his years in the construction industry have given him valuable insight into building affordable, quality homes. He urged young engineers to keep costs low, maintain standards, and educate beneficiaries about the housing scheme.
A group of 350 assistant engineers, hired on an outsourcing basis by the Housing Corporation, completed a six-day training program at the NAC. The minister praised their dedication and asked them to align their work with the government’s goals. He stressed the importance of honesty and transparency and reminded them to avoid any form of corruption.
Ponguleti was especially proud that 45% of the selected engineers are women. He highlighted that the recruitment process was based purely on merit, overcoming several challenges.
The minister also pointed out that no other state in India offers a benefit like Telangana’s Indiramma Housing Scheme, where each poor family receives ₹5 lakh to build a home. He said most other states rely only on central government funding for housing. In contrast, Telangana’s scheme allows beneficiaries to construct homes of at least 400 square feet using the allocated funds.
To prevent misuse and eliminate middlemen, the government has adopted modern technology for payments. Ponguleti confirmed that payments are released every Monday to beneficiaries who complete construction milestones.
The minister concluded by saying that the Indiramma Housing Scheme is more than just a construction project—it’s a dream come true for thousands of poor families in Telangana.
