Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu announced a significant move by the government involving a partnership with bankers. This collaboration will provide Rs 1 crore accident insurance to 51,868 electricity employees, marking a milestone in Telangana‘s history.
At a meeting at Praja Bhavan on Tuesday, after the agreement was signed, he expressed great satisfaction with the scheme focused on the families of electricity employees. He highlighted the tireless work of the electricity staff, who often risk their lives even in natural disasters. The insurance is designed to ensure their families’ well-being. He noted that the electricity department significantly contributes to the state’s GDP.
He pointed out that from linemen to CMDs, all employees have families. Regardless of their roles, everyone shares the same responsibilities toward their families. An unexpected accident can lead to chaos for a family. To prevent this, the accident insurance scheme was launched.
This scheme, free for employees, boosts their confidence and trust in the government. “We see such welfare initiatives as our duty,” he stated.
To address the rising demand for electricity, the state is planning to increase power generation and integrate green energy. For a decade, Telangana lacked a specific electricity policy, which led to its lagging behind other states. To address this, the government introduced the 2025 New Green Energy Policy right after taking office. The policy aims to use local resources and green energy nationwide, targeting the generation of 20,000 MW of green energy by 2030.
