Cyclone Muntha has caused severe damage in the Mahabubnagar region due to heavy rains over the last three days. The continuous rain has flooded areas, destroyed bridges, and isolated several villages.
In Mahabubnagar, areas like Pedda Cheruvu, the railway station, and Old Palamuru are heavily flooded. Residents have been advised to stay indoors, and those in unsafe buildings are urged to leave.
In Achampet of Nagarkurnool district, roads and neighborhoods resemble lakes, and overflowing water bodies have cut off access to villages like Choutapalli, Maddimadugu, and Uppununtla.
In Byrapur village of Veldanda mandal, a cement bridge’s mud embankments were destroyed. Similarly, the Erravalli stream near Gokaram village and the Sudhapalli stream in Madgul are dangerously high, blocking key routes.
Moderate to heavy rains in Narayanpet district have flooded low areas and damaged crops. In Hajikhampet, a mud wall collapse injured a mother and daughter, who were taken to the hospital. Villagers attempted to save cattle stuck in the Dundubhi stream in Uppununtla mandal. Roads like Kalwakurthy–Telkapally and Charakonda–Erravalli are impassable, leaving travelers stranded.
Collector Prateek Jain declared a school holiday in Kodangal constituency for safety. In Kollapur constituency, overflowing streams near Pasupula, Bavaipally, and Chandrabandha Tanda have disrupted travel and cut off some areas.
In Lingala mandal, locals rescued a man trapped in his car between Ambatipally and Hausalikunta villages. Farmers and families in Achampet’s Rangapur and Marlapadu Tanda were saved using tractors from flooded fields.
A significant incident in Lattipur village of Uppununtla mandal occurred when part of the Dindi Bridge on the Hyderabad–Srisailam National Highway (HN 765) collapsed, blocking a key route. Police have closed the area and redirected traffic.
Additional Collector Madhusudan Naik visited the district’s Control Room and discussed the situation with local officials. He instructed ongoing monitoring of water bodies and the installation of warning signs on dangerous roads.
With more rain expected, authorities urge residents to stay home and avoid flooded areas. Emergency teams are on alert throughout the Palamuru region.
