Hyderabad: Raja Singh, a senior leader from the BJP and Goshamahal MLA, announced he left the party. He felt sidelined when not chosen for the state BJP chief election. However, the state BJP later denied his resignation.
On Monday, Raja Singh spoke to the media, claiming some leaders were hindering BJP’s success in the state. He mentioned having support from three state council members, though ten are needed for a nomination.
He alleged that seven more members wanted to support him but faced pressure from senior leaders. Highlighting his struggles, he said his family was targeted by terrorists and accused some party members of blocking genuine efforts to strengthen BJP in the state.
He sent his resignation to state BJP chief G. Kishan Reddy, but BJP spokesperson Rani Rudrama contradicted his claims. She said Raja Singh visited the BJP office for nomination papers for the state party presidential election and met Shobha Karandlaje, the Union Minister and Returning Officer for Institutional Elections.
During his visit, Abhay Patil, BJP State In-charge, urged him to submit his nomination, emphasizing the party’s democratic process. However, ten state council member signatures are required for a valid nomination, which Raja Singh didn’t secure. He left without them, later accusing the party of denying him a chance to run.
Rudrama explained that Raja Singh’s resignation was sent to the state president but noted that if he was serious about resigning as MLA, he should have approached the Speaker directly.
Rani Rudrama also pointed out Raja Singh’s history of indiscipline, including past suspensions. Despite this, the party offered him several chances. She concluded, saying it was Raja Singh’s decision to step down this time.
