Hyderabad: Telangana‘s Transport Minister, Ponnam Prabhakar, announced that the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is working to improve public transport services by using modern technology. He noted that with the Automatic Fare Collection System (AFCS) in Hyderabad, bus services have become faster.
On Monday, Minister Prabhakar visited the Musheerabad depot with TGSRTC MD, VC Sajjanar. They examined the new Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS) and digital payment options under AFCS. Bus conductors showed him how easy and effective the system is.
Prabhakar mentioned that the TGSRTC is implementing unique reforms not seen anywhere else in India. He pointed out the Mahalaxmi free travel initiative for women, introduced by the state government, has greatly benefited the RTC’s finances. “So far, 191 crore zero tickets have been issued, saving women Rs 6,300 crore,” he revealed.
Ponnam Prabhakar expressed his happiness with the AFCS rollout in Hyderabad’s RTC buses. “In the last three months, AFCS has been in operation, with 20% of passengers using it daily. The RTC aims to bring this system to all buses soon,” he added.
The Minister also shared plans to expand RTC services to new residential areas within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to enhance connectivity. New bus routes will be launched to make public transport more convenient for commuters.
