The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is working to restore heritage step wells in the city. They are identifying sites and starting restoration projects for these old and damaged wells. GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose recently inspected several locations including Jam Singh temple, Nakkar Khana, Kalyana Mandapam, Gudimalkapur stepwell, and Flower Market.

The stepwell in Gudimalkapur will soon be restored and put to use as part of GHMC’s conservation efforts. The restoration project is being carried out with the guidance of the National Institute of Urban Management (NIUM) consultant and the Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority. The cost of repairing the Gudimalkapur stepwell is estimated to be Rs 46 lakh, and the work is currently in progress.
