Bhadrachalam/Hyderabad: Sri Ram Navami was celebrated with great devotion across Telangana on Sunday, as thousands of devotees visited temples to offer prayers and take part in the festivities.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy took part in the celebrations at the famous Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy Temple in Bhadrachalam. He presented ‘silk vastralu’ (silk clothes) and ‘mutyala talambralu’ (a mix of pearls, rice, and kumkum) during the traditional celestial wedding ceremony of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita.
Joining him were Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Endowments Minister Konda Surekha, and other officials. The temple, often called the “Ayodhya of the South,” saw a large turnout for the occasion.
This marked Revanth Reddy’s second visit to Bhadrachalam as Chief Minister. In contrast, former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had only attended the event in 2015 and 2016, later assigning the task to the Endowments Minister.
Meanwhile, Union Coal and Mines Minister and Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy celebrated Ram Navami in his hometown, Timmapur, near Hyderabad. A grand procession, or shobha yatra, was also held in Hyderabad city, drawing large crowds.
The main temple celebration at Bhadrachalam was held at the beautifully decorated Mithila Stadium. The area was filled with Vedic chants as devotees watched the divine wedding ceremony. The utsava idols were carried in a traditional procession and adorned with antique jewelry like the Pachala Pathakam.
The stadium was decorated with flowers imported from abroad, including varieties like RK2, blue Astra, Cornish, sunflowers, roses, heliconias, and lilies. The total cost of the floral decorations was estimated to be around ₹11 lakh.
