TGSRTC Workers Plan Statewide Strike Starting May 7
Hyderabad: Bus services across Telangana are set to come to a standstill as the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) workers prepare for an indefinite strike beginning at midnight on May 6.
The strike, organized by the TGSRTC Joint Action Committee (JAC), will see thousands of buses halted in depots starting May 7. This move is expected to seriously affect daily commuters and public transportation across the state.
The workers have listed 21 key demands, including:
– Full merger of TGSRTC with the State government to ensure job security.
– Release of two pending Pay Revision Commission (PRC) installments along with arrears from 2021.
– Payment of overdue salaries.
– Opposition to the privatization of bus depots, which unions claim is being done under the pretext of launching electric buses.
Union leaders say the State government has failed to fulfill these promises, many of which were made during the last election campaign. Workers are frustrated that even after issuing a formal strike notice, they haven’t received any response from TGSRTC management, the Labour Commissioner, or government officials.
In a recent meeting held in Hyderabad, all major unions came together to show unity. They agreed to proceed with the protest under the slogan: “One voice, one path – the path of strike.” The JAC called on all unions to put aside past disagreements and stand together in this fight to protect employee rights.
Union leaders also accuse the government of working against worker interests and using electric buses as an excuse to push privatization.
The JAC has urged the public to support their cause and is calling on the government to act quickly to avoid further disruption.
