Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) has introduced a new way for passengers to pay for tickets using QR codes. This move aims to promote cashless transactions and boost digital payments, even at general booking and reservation counters.
SCR officials explained that using QR codes will remove the need for passengers to carry cash and exact change. It also allows them to get their tickets instantly. To make this possible, special devices have been installed at all ticketing counters across the zone. These devices are placed right outside the ticket windows.
Here’s how it works: Once the ticket details are entered into the system, a QR code appears on the device. Passengers can scan this code with payment apps on their mobile phones to make the payment. After the payment is confirmed, the ticket is generated and handed over to the passenger.
Initially, this facility was available only at major counters in important stations. However, it is now being extended to all counters across the zone. The necessary devices have already been sent to all stations, and many have started using them. The entire process is expected to be fully operational in a few days.
Arun Kumar Jain, the SCR general manager, urged all rail passengers to take advantage of this new facility. He highlighted that it helps passengers avoid the hassle of dealing with exact change and makes currency handling easier.
